More Trees to join the Japan Climate Initiative!
We are happy to announce that we have joined the Japan Climate Initiative (JCI), which was organized in July 2018 with non-state actors agreeing the declaration “join the global movement for decarbonization from Japan”.
After the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, various non-state actors such as companies and NGOs increasingly playing a greater role in climate change countermeasure.
Climate change including global warming is mainly caused by the increase of atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). As trees absorb CO2 in the atmosphere and fix as an organic matter through photosynthesis process, forests store great amount of CO2 and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases. Accordingly, growing rich forests plays an important role in transition toward carbon-free society and climate change mitigation.
As a member of JCI, More Trees will continue with its contribution to climate change countermeasure through providing a forest carbon offset service*, as well as the efforts in forest conservation activities.
* More Trees’ forest carbon offset service: we offer a carbon offset service with forest carbon credits generated by “More Trees Forests” in the country and overseas where we promote forest conservation activities with local communities. The domestic carbon credits are certified under J-VER/ J-Credits scheme by government and the overseas credits are certified under VCS (Verified Carbon Standard).
